If your kids are driving you up the wall, why not let them climb one instead, by taking them to a rock climbing centre. There are a few places to go rock climbing in Christchurch, all with different challenges.
YMCA Clip ’n Climb
Where? 239 Waltham Rd, Sydenham, Christchurch
A theme park meets a climbing wall at Clip ‘n Climb with 38 different climbs to enjoy. The best thing is that every climb has automatic belay devices: just clip onto your harness and away you go, super easy and safe for the kids to do. If you think your child is a bit young, then take them along to one of the Little Monkeys preschool sessions, an interactive climbing session with toys and games.
YMCA Climbing Centre
Where? 239 Waltham Rd, Sydenham, Christchurch
A more traditional rock climbing centre, the YMCA climbing centre is perfect if the kids are up for more of a challenge. In the main arena, there are over 100 set routes for all different ages and abilities.
Uprising Boulder Gym (as shown above)
Where? Unit 4, 5 Tanner Street, Woolston, Christchurch
Uprising Boulder Gym specialises in bouldering rather than rock climbing, but they do say that kids can do it. They run a Little Crushers class for kids aged 4-7, which is a play-focused climbing class to introduce kids to bouldering.
