Happy Children = Great Learners

Every school wants to give the best possible opportunities to their students. At Pinehurst Primary School, we’re proud of the programmes we have developed to meet the needs of our learners.

A t Pinehurst Primary School we provide a broad and balanced education which focusses on the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of each child. Our lens for education is relationships, as we know that happy children make great learners. We foster strong connections and a sense of community with our students and their families through our values. Our parents are our partners – they know their children best, and together we can work to maximise each child’s potential.

We follow the International Cambridge Primary curriculum in Maths, English, Science, Global Studies, Art, Music, Languages, Digital Technologies, and Physical Education, and areas of the New Zealand curriculum, such as Health and Financial Literacy. At the same time, we use a New Zealand context for learning so that students discover as much as they can about their country and its place globally.

A SIMPLE FORMULA

Our formula is simple: A rigorous curriculum, expert teaching and thoughtfully selected resources allow us to deliver high quality education. We have a carefully blended mix of homeroom and specialist subject teachers who foster a love of learning with a focus on nurturing in the early years to independence and agency by the time our students leave our Primary School to attend Pinehurst College.

Our structured reading and writing programmes and focus on literacy and numeracy in the early years means that our learners quickly develop phonemic knowledge through learning sounds. They can construct sentences with basic punctuation and use “bossy” verbs and “wow” adjectives from five years old. We set them up for success from the start, giving them solid foundations and the confidence to take responsible risks and make real progress.

AN INSPIRING ENVIRONMENT

We are a school in a park with a beautiful environment to explore. Each syndicate has their own area to play and learn with fields and purpose-built playgrounds. We build huts, play sports, have Bubbles Day and Wheels Week, and celebrate the joy of childhood, collaborating, making friendships, and loving life. Our students visit places of interest several times a year, and day camps from Years 1 to 3, with overnight camps beginning in Year 4.

With a new theatre nearing completion, we encourage students to develop skills in the arts through music, choirs, woodwind, orchestra and marimba groups, drama and annual productions, dance, and public speaking. Our facilities provide students with wonderful opportunities to be creative and express themselves.

On the sports fields, courts, and through lessons with a PE and sports specialist and coaches, our students develop their passion for team and individual sports including basketball, netball, hockey, football, badminton, gymnastics, tennis, table tennis, and golf.
